Programmes
RE-freshers
Get straight back into university life at the beginning of the new student year in September. Those three-month summer breaks are amazing, but it can be a challenge to get back into study mode afterwards. Give yourself a quick reminder with our Re-freshers course by setting yourself some goals and a plan for the year ahead.
Skill Up
Get on top of life skills like basic cookery, budgeting your student loan, doing the washing without ending up accidentally tie-dying your favourite top, and other essential student basics with our Skill Up course.
Recreate U-ni
University study can be very different to the way you might have studied at school. It’s a lot more self-directed and needs a different skill set. Develop independent study skills with our course including concentration techniques, exam prep, library basics, tracking down those elusive resources and more.
Coming soon, after lockdown: University can be an amazing chance to make new friends. If you want to widen your social circle this year, come along to our sessions, where we’ll practice mindfulness techniques to ease social anxiety and give you strategies and tools to use to break the ice when meeting new people.
Benefit:
Our workshops and courses help make the transition to independent living and studying easier by filling in skills gaps and giving students confidence in their ability to cope. They’re especially helpful for students who may not have other people in their lives with experience of going to university. Appropriate support means less stress and healthier students, physically and mentally, as well as better learning outcomes because students can focus on study.
Impact:
Students who aren’t struggling with the basics have more time and energy to devote to their studies, meaning they’re more likely to succeed. They’re also more likely to look back on university as a positive experience, paving the way for them to encourage other young people to attend later in life. Having a service like CalmStudents available can be particularly important for young people who are among the first in their family or community to attend university. Our programmes help level the playing field for students from disadvantaged communities and those such as care leavers who may not have other support available, by helping them build the skills they need to succeed.
